Adult Group Tours

Looking for a unique experience for your group? The Connecticut Historical Society offers fun, thought-provoking tours that make great outings for senior groups, social clubs, bus tours, or other historical societies. Most guided tours last 45-60 minutes, and advanced reservations are required. Tours are available Monday-Saturday with reservations.

DON'T MISS OUR NEW MUSEUM STORE!
Our renovated store features an expanded selection of books, unusual and one-of-a-kind gifts, and refreshments and is a perfect way to cap off your group's visit to the CHS.

Please call (860) 236-5621 x232 or email education_assistant@chs.org for more information or to book.

The fee for standard tours is $6 per person. Choose one of the following:

CHS Overview Tour
For those groups looking for a general introduction to the CHS, this tour offers some background about the organization, the collection, and the building that houses it (once the home of Curtis Veeder and his family) and an overview of our major permanent and changing exhibitions.

Making Connecticut Highlights Tour
This tour highlights 8-10 "don't miss" objects from our signature exhibition. Hear the fascinating, and sometimes unexpected, stories behind these memorable treasures spanning 400+ years of Connecticut history.

Special Exhibition Tour
The CHS has regularly changing special exhibits on a variety of topics. Visit www.chs.org/exhibits for more information about current and upcoming special exhibitions.

Special Tours

The fee for special tours is $15 per person ($60 minimum). Due to the nature of these tours and the spaces involved, group size is limited. Please contact us for more information.

Choose one of the following:

Behind-the-Scenes Collections Tour
Get a sneak peek into non-public storage areas and see some of the CHS collection not currently on exhibit. This tour takes visitors into two of our storage areas: the third floor furniture and textiles collection and the lower-level paintings storage. You will get the chance to see some perennial staff favorites and learn how we care for our collections to ensure they are available for years to come.

Civil War Specialty Tour
In honor of the Civil War 150 Commemoration, take this rare opportunity to see Civil War-related material not usually on view to the public. In addition to visiting the Connecticut Historical Society's signature exhibit, Making Connecticut, groups will go "behind-the-scenes" to explore examples of private letters between soldiers and their families, weapons, uniforms, photographs, prints, and more, including the flag that decorated President Lincoln's box at Ford's Theater the night he was assassinated.

Additional specialty tours, including the "Secrets of the Veeder House" tour, are also available. Please contact us at (860) 236-5621 x232 or email education_assistant@chs.org for more information and prices.
