Graphics Collection
The Graphics collection houses the Historical Society's holdings of over 200, 000 photographs, prints and drawings of Connecticut people, places and events. It is open to the public by appointment from 1:00 to 5:00, Monday through Friday.For an appointment call Nancy Finlay

Augustus Washington Traveling Exhibition
Drawings
Original works on paper made by amateur or professional artists using pencil, ink, watercolor, chalk, crayon or a combination of techniques. The Graphics Collection includes almost 4000 original drawings.
Prints
Designs made by transfering ink from a plate, block or stone. Printmaking processes include engraving, etching, wood engraving and lithography. While each drawing is a unique original, many differnt impressions were produced of most prints. The Graphics Collection includes over 6000 prints
Photographs
Images produced on a light-sensitive surface, usually film in a camera. Photography was invented in Europe in 1839 and introduced to America within the year. Like prints, most photographs exist in more than one copy. The Graphics Collection include over 200,000 photographs.
Postcards
Picture postcards were introduced shortly before the turn of the century as an inexpensive way to send brief messages through the mail. The pictures on soma early postcards are actual photographs, others are color lithographs, but most are photomechanical prints, in which a photographic image is transferred to a printing plate and reproduced using a printing press. The Graphics Collection includes over 10,000 postcards.
