History would never be available to any of us without someone to document it. Documents such as newspapers, diaries, and letters have been a mainstay of historical research, but these kinds of documents often capture only the viewpoints of a select group of people. Oral history is a way to record a living person's spoken story, and has been used in the Nuestras Historias Project to document a perspective that has not appeared in most of the typical historic records from that time. Like oral history, photography is another way to preserve a more democratic image of the past. The complete oral history transcripts from this project can be viewed in the library at The Connecticut Historical Society. Please visit us for your next research project on this important community! Nuestras Historias is funded by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, the State of Connecticut, Department of Economic and Community Development, the Connecticut Humanities Council, and The Connecticut Historical Society. Nuestras Historias Contributors: We are grateful to and thank the individuals who graciously contributed their time, stories, and photographs to create the Nuestras Historias Project. They are:
