New York Times best-selling author Julie Fenster will discuss the invention of anesthesia and the role of Hartford's own Horace Wells in one of medicine's greatest discoveries. Special Event/Family Program: Demonstration Day with the Handweavers' Guild of Connecticut Saturday, May 4 | 10:00 am - 2:00 pm | FREE
Join us for a day of demonstrations and activities for both families and adults! Handweavers will demonstrate various looms and spinning wheels, and visitors can try out an inkle loom and a Dorset loom. A special area for kids will offer hands-on projects to take home. Just in time for Mother's Day, the CHS invites you to explore Spring through our collection. Join us as we dig through gardening tools, seed packets, garden plans, spring bonnets, and botanical prints. Weather permitting, we will tour the CHS grounds. Be sure to bring your mom! Secrets of the Veeder House Tour Saturday, May 25 | 11:00 am & 1:00 pm FREE for members | $4-8 non-members tickets available online
From the servants' quarters to the original elevator, explore the architecture and see some of the non-public details of the 1928 house that is now the Connecticut Historical Society.
